Houses :: This is War (Dustin Kensrue cover)
Houses just released a cover of Dustin Kensrue’s “This is War” on Alternative Apparel’s blog. Like Dexter said on their Facebook page, it “involves no synthesizers whatsoever,” and it’s quite elegant. Dexter also helped make the above video for the track. A holiday miracle from one of my favorite acts of the year.

jj’s upcoming mixtape, Kills, is due out on Christmas Eve. No word if “No More You” will appear.
Gobble Gobble :: Nikki (I Am Not The-Dream cover)

I had a terrible dream last night that I missed a Gobble Gobble show, and when I called Cecil to ask him why he didn’t tell me they were coming to town, he said that he had, but that I claimed that I “had too much school work.” I woke up kind of bummed at the thought of missing that show and at the fact that I have a physics project to do, but then I checked my email and found a message from Cecil, reading:
“I’ve capitulated to the gods of thanksgiving. In their honor and yrs.”
Following the message was this brilliant cover of The-Dream’s “Nikki,” bursting with seemingly unworldly sounds and energy, as usual. So, if you also succumbed to the endless indulgences of Thanksgiving, this one can surely pull you back to consciousness.
Houses :: Talamak (Toro y Moi cover)

As if the announcement of Toro y Moi’s new LP, Beneath the Pine, wasn’t enough, Houses, went and released a cover of Causers of This standout, “Talamak.” It premiered today on Turntable Kitchen along with another new Houses track that was recorded exclusively for blog curator Matthew Hickey. It’s all part of Houses’ rather interesting approach to saving up money for a tour.
Head here to donate and get yourself an exclusively made track, or just pre-order their album. Either way, you win with more Houses. Oh, and check out Toro’s Underneath the Pine tracklist here.
Memoryhouse :: These Days (Jackson Browne cover)

Please don’t confront me with my failures.
I have not forgotten them.
Courtship :: Ride

Courtship, the solo project of San Francisco-based artist Patric Fallon, melts down Ciara’s “Ride” into a smooth, minimalist gem. Fallon’s Oliver Sim-esque vocals had me thinking of The xx initially, but after listening to his Kaleidoscope Days EP, I realized that “Ride” is basically the only song he’s done in that vein. However, that’s not to say that the EP isn’t worth checking out, especially with tracks like closer “Kaleidoscope Days.” It’s all available for free download here, but you can grab both “Ride” and “Kaleidoscope Days” below.

Teen Daze :: Wet Hair (Japandroids cover)

Though I still have no idea who the person behind Teen Daze actually is, I’ve been following his music very closely for the past few months and have yet to be disappointed. He does some of the most impressive electronic work I’ve come across, exhibiting his talent through his original work, remixes, and covers. After his Forkcasted Washed Out “New Theory” cover, Teen Daze is back with a much smoother rendition of Japandroids’ “Wet Hair.” He posted it on his Tumblr last week, where you should follow him to stay posted on all things TD.
